The Toa Reinsurance Company of America (Toa Re America) has been a trusted reinsurance partner for ceding companies and insurance entities across North America. Founded in 1982, Toa Re America operated as a strategic partner of The Mercantile & General Reinsurance Company of America until Mercantile & General was acquired by The Toa Reinsurance Company, Ltd. in 1997.

As the principal overseas subsidiary of The Toa Reinsurance Company, Ltd. of Tokyo, we combine global financial strength with a personal, client-focused approach. With offices in Morristown, NJ; Irvine, CA; and Toronto, ON, we serve the market through reinsurance brokers.

  • The Toa Reinsurance Company., Ltd. (Toa Tokyo) , the parent organization of Toa Re America was established in 1940 and re-established after World War II in 1947. Toa Tokyo is the sole domestic professional reinsurer in Japan, and Toa Re America operates as its principal overseas subsidiary. Toa Tokyo operates worldwide from the home market, as well as through branches in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur, in addition to the US and Canada.

Toa Re America and the former M&G America were merged, and now operate as Toa Re of America a Delaware Insurance Corporation. The acquisition of a long-time partner gave Toa Reinsurance Company., Ltd. the strategic advantage of expanding its scope of business in the United States without experiencing the cultural barriers or miscommunications often associated with international transactions.
